In fatigue and high stress applications, 17-7 performs better than even the best high-grade carbon steels. The spring properties are achieved by precipitation hardening from the C state to the CH900 state. As a result, the material can withstand temperatures of 650°F (343°C) without loss of spring properties. The 17-7 PH CH900 temper exhibits magnetic properties similar to high carbon steels.
